NEW WIDE DYNAMIC RANGE SEISMIC SYSTE

A complete new seismic system with exceptionally' wide dynamic range has been announced by Houston Technical Laboratories.

Called the lv1odel 7000

Seismic Amplifier System, it is a high gain , low distortion system specifically d es i g ned for magnetic recording as well as conventional seismic applications. The HTL 7000 System incorporates three Automatic Gain Control speeds with a 1,000,000 to l AGC control range.

In addition to AGC operation,

it also may be operated on Constant Gain or Time Varied Gain.

Total systern

gain is over 120 decibels, with input range from 0. l microvolt to 0. l volt between 10 and 200 cycles.

Great flexibility in filtering is provided by an

unusually large number of useful filter settings, totalling 1380. Yet even with this extreme sensitivity and flexibility, the 7000 System is a truly portable field instrument because of lightweight unit construction .." I

New exclusive features and all the desirable features formerly found only(; ,1

heavy, truck-mounted seismic amplifiers have . been incorporated i~to the 7000 System. lv10dule design and lightweight construction limit maximum weight of any one element to 57 lb, with the SO-trace recording os cillograph weighing only 41 lb.

Aluminum and magnesium are used extensively and components are

equipped with carrying handles or optional back-pack adapters.

The manufacturer , Houston Technical Laboratories , is the petroleum instrumentation subsidiary of Texas Instruments Incorporated , which, through Geophysical Service Inc . , its geophysical exploration subsidiary , was a pion eer organization in the development and applicati on of the reflection seismo graph technique . All components of the 7000 System -- including seismometers , b laster , ca b le reel, power supply , amplifiers, and recording oscillograph are designed and manufactured by Houston Technical Laboratories.

TEXAS INSTRUMENT S REDUCES PRICES ON SILICON SEMICONDUC TORS

Texas Instruments Incorporated, sole commercial manufacturer of silicon

transistors, announces that it has reduced prices on all five types of silicon transistors by 25% and on both types of silicon junction diodes by more than 30% effective December 20.

Texas Instruments has remained the exclusive

commercial source for the revolutionary new high temperature, high frequency silicon transistor since its announcement in May.

TI silicon

junction diodes were introduced in March. The manufacturing experience gained in the production of tens of thousands of n-p-n grown junction silicon transistors and even more diodes now makes possible the substantial price reduction.

The improved manu-

facturing techniques now in operation permit the price reduction, which will further broaden the application of silicon semiconductor devices, Silicon units operate with little change at 150 ° C (302°F) as compared to an equivalent limit of 65° C ( 149 °F) for germanium devices.

They are

currently finding many applications in airborne electronic equipment.

Silicon

transistors are also superior to germanium units in factors other than high temperature operation, including frequency, rise and decay times, and power output.

Germanium transistors still retain a cost advantage, however, and many thousands of Texas Instruments grown junction germanium transistors
