S-C DRAFTSWOMAN WINS NATIONAL ACCLAIM FOR DESIGN At her drafting table in Semiconductor-Components Mechanization, Marie Chandler works on mechanical and electrical detailing and also illustrates products. In her spare time, the three-year Tler recently turned her won national talents to a more domestic chore-and acclaim for her efforts. Marie designed a new kitchen for her home which is featured in the annual Better Homes and Gardens Kitchens Ideas for 1963, now available on newsstands. The magazine devotes two pages with color illustrations to the kitchen she planned and helped execute at her Dallas home, 4132 Purdue. Focal point of the kitchen is an antique Victorian washstand with a marble top and drawer handles fash­ ioned of carved fruit. Her new cabinets of black walnut repeat the molding design on the washstand and have almost identical carved-fruit door-pulls. Marie chose smooth white marble for her cabinet tops, in place of conventional tile or formica. Stained shutter blinds above the corner sink match the cabinets and a splash of color is achieved with clusters of potted, red geran­ iums on the window sill. The kitchen satisfies dual requisites: it is as functional as the most contemporary design and yet is in harmony with the rest of Marie's home, which is decorated with antebellum antiques from her former residence in Mobile, Ala.
